About Me

In 2010 Tom was victim to a vicious assault while employed as an Investigator with the New York State Police.  The result of this assault left him completely broken both physically and mentally.  Several years of physical therapy and eight surgeries was not enough to regain normal range of motion in his right shoulder.  This most recent injury triggered a very significant mental health crisis.  Tom was spiraling into depression and post-traumatic stress from his 21 years of military service from combat in Desert Storm to standing next to the collapse of the twin towers after the devastation of 9/11 serving as a New York State Trooper.  Immediately after his shoulder injury Tom spent a few years in a very dark place and lost his identity.  It wasn't until he left Dare2tri's paratriathlon camp that he discovered what his new aspirations were.  The structure involved with training for triathlons was the spark that he needed.  The process caused him to believe in himself again, inspire others, be a better person and give back to others.  That's when he realized that taking a knee was okay, hitting the reset button, refocusing and repurposing his life was possible.  Tom is very passionate  about sharing this journey  and if he can offer a spark to someone who is struggling like he was please invite Tom to come share this amazing story.

PERSPECTIVE

SOME OF US ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE FOUND A SPARK, A SMALL MOMENT OF HOPE.  THE HOPE TO PUSH THROUGH A DEVASTATING TIME IN OUR LIFE AND TO KEEP FIGHTING TO TRY AND FIND A PURPOSE.  WHEN WE SLOWLY FIND A NEW DIRECTION AND GET BACK ON COURSE, WE CAN NEVER FORGET THOSE WHO STILL REMAIN LOST AND OFF COURSE.  IF I CAN OFFER A SPARK, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, TO ANYONE WHO IS SUFFERING IN A DARK PLACE, I AM GIVING BACK THE SAME WAY I WAS BROUGHT BACK ON COURSE.
